My addiction to telly began when I was eight and I watched my first episode of Coronation Street. Not only did it teach me about TV’s power to connect people in a shared experience, it introduced me to Bet Gilmore – still my primary sartorial influence.
I set up a writers’ room in the playground and still believe that my Raquel story arc is a lost masterpiece. Tragically for the drama world, real-life (and secondary school) got in the way and the next time I turned my attention to a possible career in TV was after I’d graduated with my degree in architecture and had spent two years as a journalist at the Manchester Evening News Group.
My first (real) TV job was in BBC Manchester’s factual entertainment development team and I went on to work in the development departments of companies including Tiger Aspect, IWC and Mentorn.
In 2010 I moved to Renegade Pictures, where I became Head of Development and was subsequently promoted to Creative Director. During my time at the company, I devised, developed and sold a diverse array of shows including Lose Weight For Love (BBC1), Date My Porn Star (C4), Barely Legal Drivers (BBC3), Secrets Of The Sales (BBC1), Our Wildest Dreams (C4) and the BAFTA-nominated The Tribe (C4).
But after seven brilliant years, it was time for a new challenge and I couldn’t be more delighted to start a new adventure at Koska, where I’m excited about creating smart shows with heart, wit and something to say about life.
